I WAKE UP WITH EMOTIONAL RESIDUE
"A Photographic Exploration of the Subconscious, Translating Internal Imagery Into Visual Form."
Since childhood, I always found dreams as the most profound human mysteries. As Sigmud Freud puts it, dreams create an alternative world with hidden stories from our deep unconscious minds, and I try to capture these surreal narratives before they fleet and disappear. These visions happen for a reason and aren’t accidental. At times, these have a direct impact of the desires, anxieties, and the psychological effects that we have experienced through social issues, and create mysterious stories.
These dreams are both meaningful and valuable source for my artwork. Through my work, I try not to find answers, but I use dreams as an inspiration to find my hidden self by asking questions. Through photography, I visually narrate my inner stories, creating a bridge between the intangible and the tangible, as well as between my internal and external worlds. It started out as documenting my dreams, but this evolved into a more detailed work where I stage by dreams photographically using voice memos I recorded after waking up as references.
The goal of my work is not recreating dreams with precise visual accuracy. I want to create something that capture the surreal nature of dreams that exposes truths about human psychology and other things that cannot be explained through logic. Today, we live in a place where our mind is stimulated through technology and the media. I believe it is important for us to focus on our inner selves, and pay a closer attention to our dreams. Understanding our dreams serves as both a practice of self-understanding and a way to get to know ourselves better through this reflection. In the visual narratives I create, I invite my viewers to explore and encounter their own forgotten remnants of fleeting memories or emotions they may have forgotten. Through these discoveries, I hope they ask their own questions and share their experiences collectively.
